YKK AP Takes Home Two Wins in the 2019 Architectural Products Product Innovation Awards

Honored for the YWW 50 TU Thermally Broken Window Wall and its success in the JW Marriott Nashville

AUSTELL, GA. (Nov. 15, 2019) YKK AP America Inc. today announced it took home two Architectural Products 2019 Product Innovation Awards (PIAs) for its YWW 50 TU Thermally Broken Window Wall and for the skyline-changing JW Marriott in Nashville, Tenn. The YWW 50 TU’s highly customizable attributes enabled the stunning elliptical-shaped JW Marriott to transform Nashville’s skyline.

The Architectural Products PIAs determine and honor innovation in the development and refinement of buildings-related products that range the gamut from cladding systems to interior finishes. Judged by a group of 14 independent industry professionals, the program represents a mechanism to impartially review product and present to readers items their peers found innovative and worth investigating.

“Building on the success of last year’s program, our ninth edition of the awards proves commercial building manufacturers are committed to and are working arduously toward, delivering more sustainable products, as well as products that deliver better performance, life and affordability,” said Jim Crockett, editorial director at Architectural Products Magazine.

The YWW 50 TU thermally broken window wall system provides architects with more versatility and efficiency in window wall systems than ever before. In today’s design world, a strong economy of scale and lower cost is critical. With a slab edge cover that provides a modern, clean look and maximum design versatility, this system mirrors the look of curtain wall from a building’s exterior, while providing high thermal and acoustical performance at a lower cost. The system also allows for design flexibility and adapts to unique, forward-thinking designs, like that of curved buildings.

The project winner, Nashville’s JW Marriott stands at 33-stories high and is nestled amongst the busy streets of Music City, USA. The hotel’s elliptical glass tower offers stunning views of the city from all 533 guest rooms, as well as a high-end restaurant. While the use of a curtain wall was part of the original plans, YKK AP was able to customize the YWW 50 TU to fit the job while adding a number of benefits only a window wall can provide.

“YKK AP takes great pride in understanding and anticipating our customers’ needs, and finding a way to meet them with innovative and high-performing products for the building envelope,” said Mike Turner, senior vice president of sales and marketing at YKK AP. “We are honored to be recognized for the quality of our work by respected industry leaders.”
