Improvements will speed time to market and bring added versatility to architects and contractors designing for the impact market
AUSTELL, GA (Dec. 20, 2017) – YKK AP America Inc. today announced the enhancement of its ProTek® impact-resistant products to meet the Florida Building Code’s revised 2017 Florida Product Approvals. For decades, YKK AP’s impact products have been designed and customized to address Florida’s specific performance requirements, particularly those in the High Velocity Hurricane Zones. As new Florida Building Codes take effect on Jan. 1, 2018, YKK AP will make it easier and faster for architects and contractors to incorporate pre-approved, pre-engineered curtain walls and window walls into projects in the Florida market and other low-lying regions.
The YHC 300 OG high-performance curtain wall, YHC 300 SSG Cassette pre-glazed curtain wall and YHW 60 TU pre-glazed window wall will be standardized to meet specific, required design pressures for Florida Product Approvals. Pre-engineered anchor conditions will be expanded. The most significant change will be to the YHC 300 OG curtain wall. Mullion height will more than double to reach as high as 324 inches. This will allow for bigger spans of pure glass on multi-story buildings, resulting in a cleaner aesthetic and improved daylighting.
“Our goal is to always improve upon ways to better service our customers. Architects and contractors have expressed a need and desire for additional pre-engineered options to cover a range of applications. When Florida Building Codes went under revision, we took it as an opportunity to improve and expand upon our impact-resistant offering to bring added value to customers,” said Heather Evans, certification program engineer, YKK AP America Inc. “The new, pre-engineered additions will eliminate the need for frequent customization to meet requirements and more rapidly deliver consistent, high performance products to the impact market.”
Additionally, YKK AP consolidated all Florida Product Approval information to make it easy for architects and contractors to locate specific product information needed for a given application. This saves a critical amount of time and effort in the approval process. Contact your local branch manager to view the consolidated and updated Florida Product Approval information for YKK AP products.
