Rone Residences balances residential design and performance with a custom glazing solution
Rone Residences brings 209 apartment homes to Houston’s River Oaks/Upper Kirby neighborhood. Designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects, with interiors by Rottet Studio, the 12-story building combines thoughtfully planned living spaces with an emphasis on natural light and connections to its surroundings.
YKK AP’s YWW 60 XT window wall and YSD 600 T sliding door systems support the project’s residential design and performance goals. Installed by glazing contractor Duke’s Glass, the systems work together to help provide residents with consistently comfortable living spaces.
A key challenge was coordinating the sliding door sills with the interior floor finishes while meeting the project’s required water infiltration performance specifications. The sill detail needed to address both requirements without compromising either.
Working closely with YKK AP, Duke’s Glass developed a custom sill solution for the YSD 600 T sliding doors. The resulting detail aligns seamlessly with the interior floor finishes while meeting the specified water infiltration requirements.
Testing confirmed the installation’s performance. Across 20 chamber tests, the installation passed every one, demonstrating the effectiveness of the installed systems and custom detailing.
At Rone Residences, collaboration between YKK AP and Duke’s Glass helped resolve a specific design challenge, bringing together the finish coordination and dependable performance needed for everyday residential use.
