On June 6, the downtown New Orleans community celebrated the grand opening of luxury condominium building, The Standard. Designed by renowned architect and New Orleans native, Morris Adjmi, The Standard embodies the city’s rich history, unique culture and diversity, with a nod to its bright future.

The 15-story, character-rich building sits on “Gallery Row” in the center of the city’s arts and warehouse district. The multi-million dollar luxury building offers 89 units, 24,000 square feet of retail space and 30,000 square feet of amenities, including a pool, fitness center, clubhouse and on-site parking.

A key consideration in the design of The Standard was achieving the desired combination of aesthetics and performance. By utilizing glass and YKK AP’s impact-resistant YHW 60 TU Window Wall System, The Standard was able to do so. In recent years, window wall has emerged as the preferred system for mixed-use buildings due to its cost advantage over curtain wall and fast installation properties. Window wall is dried-in by floor, rather than by elevation, which shortens the overall construction cycle. The YHW 60 TU is one of the industry’s only shop-fabricated and pre-glazed window wall systems to protect against strong environmental conditions of up to 90 psf, a strong consideration for The Standard in this coastal region of New Orleans.

Additionally, because The Standard set out to define luxury in each of its condominiums, acoustical performance was an important factor. The YHW 60 TU Window Wall provides strong sound attenuation as the system stops at each floor, eliminating the transmission of sound waves from floor to floor. The system itself has a Sound Transmission Class, or STC, rating of 39, which is about three points better than a typical non-impact window wall.

The end result is a new definition of luxury and quality in the urban core of New Orleans.
