Opened in 2018, the $95 million Research and Education Building at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida serves as a collaborative hub for pediatric research, education, and innovation. Designed by HDR, the 230,000-square-foot addition brings together four key institutes dedicated to advancing treatment, prevention, and advocacy, while fostering collaboration through light-filled labs, teaching spaces, and open circulation areas. The building’s striking facade combines expansive, impact-resistant curtain wall along the north elevation with a sculptural south facade inspired by DNA, balancing transparency, performance, and symbolism. To meet Florida’s stringent hurricane requirements, the project incorporates YKK AP’s YHC 300 OG and YHC 300 SSG Curtain Wall Systems, YFW 400 TUH windows, Model 50H impact-rated entrances, and YHS 50 storefront systems—delivering resilience, daylight, and a modern architectural expression that reflects the hospital’s forward-thinking mission in pediatric care and research.
