Located along the banks of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC, the new state-of-the-art headquarters for the District of Columbia’s water and sewer management boldly redefines typical architecture of a civic building. DC Water’s serpentine footprint evokes the fluidity of water creating a dramatic facade that seems to flow around the landscape. Erie’s unitized ENVIRO|FACADES® curtain wall system achieves this unique form using a series of planar modules installed at varying degrees to simulate a curvilinear path. As each floor ebbs and flows, the facade blends from offset independent strips of framing to a unified wall of glass and metal panels. As a means to maximize the facade’s performance and add an engaging aesthetic quality, projected wind screen panels were integrated into the curtain wall on the building’s southeastern and southwestern faces.
