A New Standard

Precedence™ vinyl replacement windows were developed by YKK AP to provide more value by reducing options and making standard the features today’s homeowners desire. With Precedence™ replacement windows, YKK AP defines a new standard for style, performance and reliability. Standard features — such as low-e glass with Argon gas filling in conjunction with a Neat glass coating that is virtually self-cleaning and the industry’s most reliable balance system — set Precedence over others. With a wide range of styles to enhance your home both inside and out, plus the superior performance and ease of maintenance with which vinyl windows have become synonymous, Precedence™ replacement windows set the new standard for replacement window performance and value.

A New Standard For Energy Efficiency

The windows in your home are a major source of energy loss – up to 25 percent. While traditional double pane windows help, they’re not enough. Low emissivity (“low-e”) glass, a standard feature of all YKK AP replacement windows, helps to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer by reflecting heat back to its source. To produce an even higher level of performance, the sealed insulated glass unit is filled with Argon, a gas more dense than air, which improves the thermal performance of the unit. These standard features qualify Precedence™ replacement windows for the Energy Star certification - your assurance that these replacement windows meet or exceed stringent testing standards for energy efficiency.

A New Standard for Low Maintenance

Vinyl windows are inherently low maintenance. Unlike wooden windows, they require no painting and will not wear over time. With Precedence™ replacement windows, YKK AP raised the bar even further with Neat glass: a special coating from Cardinal Industries that make Precedence™ replacement windows easier to clean while remaining clean longer. Silicon dioxide fills in the microscopic pits on the glass surface, making the window super-smooth so water sheets rather than beading up, leaving the glass almost spotless as water dries. A Titanium dioxide coating reacts with UV light (even on cloudy days) to dissolve carbon based and organic material. When rain or water hits the window, the sheeting action simply washes away the decomposed dirt. Additionally, though you may never need it, a tilt-in sash makes access to the outside surface a snap.

Qualify for 2009-2010 Tax Credit

On February 17, 2009, a stimulus bill – American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 – was signed into effect and made significant changes to the energy tax credits.

  • The tax credits previously effective for 2009 have been extended to 2010.
  • Tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30%.
  • The maximum credit has been raised from $500.00 to $1,500.00 for 2009 and 2010.
  • The $200.00 cap on windows has been removed.
  • The credit is only allowed on the price of the qualified windows themselves, not on installation costs, on site preparation, assembly or sales tax.
  • Homeowners need to save their receipts for the windows purchased, along with the NFRC temporary labels affixed to the interior glass (see example 1), in order to apply for the tax credit. Please use IRS Form 5695.

Purchasing energy efficient windows for your home can provide benefits beyond lowering your energy bills. Energy efficient vinyl windows lower maintenance requirements and can improve your interior environment with sound abatement qualities. Best of all, they can improve the appearance and value of your home.

Qualifying Window Performance Criteria

YKK AP Standard products meet the following performance standards;

U-Factor = O.30
U-Factor: The measurement of heat flow through a glazing system. The lower the U-Factor, the better the insulating quality.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient = O.30
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient is the amount of direct solar radiation that enters through a pane of glass into the home as heat. The smaller the number, the better the glazing system’s ability to prevent solar heat gain.
