James Gantt Fausett, FAIA

Jim Fausett is a former professor of the architecture program at Southern Polytechnic State University. He is a founder of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) chapter at Southern Polytechnic and has been a mentor for the organization for the past 30 years. Under Fausett’s guidance, the chapter received the National Chapter of the Year Award. He is co-author of Architectural Drawing and Light Construction and was named a National Educator of the Year by the AIAS. He is past president of AIA Georgia and AIA Atlanta, past protocol chairman for the AIA National Convention and past president of the board of trustees for the Architects Foundation of Georgia. He also a past recipient of the Rothschild Award.

Susan Ellis Proper, Executive Director of the Atlanta Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA)

Susan Ellis Proper is the Executive Director of the Atlanta Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA). Joining AIA in early 2005, she provided operational, financial and program management for both AIA Georgia and AIA Atlanta. In 2007 she was promoted to Executive Director of AIA Atlanta - the ninth largest chapter in the nation which remains focused on the 2030 Challenge. Ellis Proper also worked with the Atlanta Public Arts Legacy Fund restoring public art, monuments and sculpture. She owned and operated her own small business in Hawaii for 6 years. Ellis Proper holds a business degree from Fisher College in Boston as well as an art degree from Georgia State University. She is a member of GSAE and ASAE and is an avid painter, traveler and golfer.

Sydney G. Roberts, PhD, Southface Home Services Program Manager

Sydney G. Roberts, Ph.D. has actively engaged the greater building community through outreach activities at Southface. She is a lead instructor and curricula developer for a number of professional training programs. Sydney has delivered invited lectures on topics of energy efficiency and green building at diverse forums such as the 2007 British Consulate Climate Change Initiative Forum and Atlanta Developer’s Day (2007) and has presented at regional and national conferences in this field. Southface is a nonprofit organization that for more than 30 years has promoted energy-, water- and resource-efficient workplaces, homes and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance.
